The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has firmly dismissed widespread reports claiming that its National Chairman, David Mark, has resigned from his position, describing the allegations as false, malicious, and deliberately misleading.
In an official statement released by the Media Office of the National Chairman and signed by Paul Mumed in Kano, the party condemned the report as a calculated attempt to sow discord within its ranks. The ADC characterized the claim as “an insidious fabrication” orchestrated by what it termed “puerile, weak, and inconsiderate propagandists.”
The statement unequivocally affirmed that Senator Mark remains the substantive National Chairman of the party and continues to carry out his responsibilities without interruption. According to the ADC, there has been no discussion, intention, or contemplation of resignation either from the chairman himself or from the party’s leadership.
“The assertion that Senator David Mark has stepped down exists only in the warped imagination of those bent on spreading falsehood and creating confusion within our party,” the statement read, underscoring the party’s frustration with what it sees as a deliberate campaign of misinformation.
The ADC further stressed that its leadership structure remains intact and united, adding that the party is focused on consolidating its position as a credible political alternative in Nigeria. It noted that attempts to circulate false information about its leadership are part of broader efforts to destabilize the party at a critical time in the nation’s political landscape.
According to the statement, such tactics are being driven by fear of the ADC’s growing popularity and its increasing relevance in shaping political discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party maintained that it remains undeterred by these developments and is committed to strengthening democratic values across the country.
“The ADC leadership remains united, focused, and resolute in its mission to provide credible leadership and deepen democratic governance in Nigeria,” the statement added.
The party also issued a stern warning to individuals and groups allegedly behind the rumours, cautioning against actions that could undermine political stability or erode public trust in democratic institutions.
It argued that the spread of unfounded claims not only harms the party but also threatens the broader democratic process.
Reiterating its stance, the ADC declared that it would resist any attempt to weaken Nigeria’s multi-party system or impose a one-party structure, emphasizing the importance of political plurality in sustaining democracy.
“The ADC, its leadership, and the majority of Nigerians are unbending in their collective determination to resist any plot aimed at undermining Nigeria’s multi-party democracy,” the statement noted.
The party concluded by urging Nigerians, party members, and supporters to disregard the rumours and remain confident in the stability and direction of the ADC. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, unity, and responsible leadership as it continues to position itself for future electoral contests.
With this clarification, the ADC seeks to put to rest speculation surrounding its leadership and reinforce confidence in its internal cohesion as political activities gradually intensify nationwide.
