2027: APC Guber Candidate Abubakar Congratulates Bauchi NMA’s New Leadership, Unveils Healthcare Agenda

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Bauchi State election, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar (SAN), has congratulated the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Bauchi State Branch, on the successful conduct of its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the election of a new State Officers Committee.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Bauchi, Abubakar praised the association for conducting a peaceful and transparent election on July 18, which ushered in a new executive to lead the association for the 2026–2028 tenure.

He congratulated the newly elected officers, including Dr Kabir Abdullahi as Chairman, Dr Bello Ibrahim as Vice Chairman, Dr Nur Gazali as Secretary, Dr Gabi Umar as Assistant Secretary, Dr Suleiman Aminu Tukur as Financial Secretary, Dr Ya’u Julde as Treasurer, and Dr Auwal Kwankiyel as Public Relations Officer.

The APC governorship candidate urged the new leadership to uphold professionalism, ethical medical practice and the welfare of doctors and other healthcare workers while working to improve healthcare delivery and address the state’s health challenges.

Abubakar recalled that during his administration as governor from 2015 to 2019, his government supported the NMA through the donation of an 18-seater bus, the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy for land allocated for the association’s secretariat, and an upward review of salaries for medical officers under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

Reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector if elected governor in 2027, Abubakar pledged to declare a state of emergency on the renovation of primary and secondary healthcare facilities across the state.

He also promised to provide emergency ambulances, install solar power systems in accident and emergency units as well as maternity and paediatric wards, and improve the recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals through enhanced welfare packages.

According to him, the proposed measures would include the provision of modest accommodation for health workers, improved hazard and rural posting allowances, comprehensive health insurance coverage for healthcare personnel, stronger collaboration with federal tertiary health institutions, and increased engagement with national and international development partners to attract funding and technical support.

Abubakar expressed confidence that closer collaboration with the NMA, other professional health bodies and relevant stakeholders would accelerate the delivery of accessible, resilient and quality healthcare services across Bauchi State.
