Hundreds of ADC Members Defect to APC in Sokoto as Wamakko, Gov. Aliyu Welcome New Entrants

Hundreds of members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Gudu, Binji and Tangaza Local Government Areas of Sokoto State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bashar Abubakar.

Among the prominent defectors are former Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Musa Ausa Gidan Madi; Faruk Mustapha Balle; Sarkin Arewa; Attahiru Salihu Bashar Kalanjeni; Umaru Zuzu; and several of their supporters from the three local government areas.
The defectors were formally received into the APC by the party’s Sokoto State Chairman, Haruna S. Gobir Adiya, during the flag-off ceremony for the Gidan Madi to Binji to Gande Road Project in Tangaza Local Government Area.

The event was attended by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, government officials and other party stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Senator Wamakko described the mass defection as a vote of confidence in Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration and the APC’s leadership in the state.

He said the growing number of opposition members joining the APC reflected the impact of the government’s ongoing developmental projects across Sokoto State.

Wamakko urged the governor to remain committed to delivering more democratic dividends while sustaining an inclusive style of governance. He also expressed optimism that the administration’s achievements would continue to attract more supporters to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu congratulated the new members for joining the ruling party and assured them of equal opportunities and fair treatment within the APC.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to executing more people-oriented projects across the state, pledging to continue delivering on the mandate entrusted to his government by the people of Sokoto.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Faruk Mustapha Balle, Musa Ausa Gidan Madi, Attahiru Salihu Bashar Kalanjeni, Sayyad Nuhu Binji and Sani Ahmad said their decision to join the APC was motivated by what they described as the impressive performance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration and the leadership of Senator Wamakko.

They pledged their loyalty to the APC and vowed to mobilise support for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defectors cited major infrastructure projects, including the Wamakko Bunkari Road and the Gidan Madi to Binji to Gande Road, as evidence of the APC administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents across Sokoto State.
