Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has welcomed former governor and senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, into the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing his return as a significant development that will strengthen the party’s position in the state.

The governor’s remarks were contained in a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad.
Yusuf said arrangements were underway, in collaboration with the party’s national secretariat, to fix a date for the formal reception of Shekarau into the APC.

He noted that the party in Kano continued to attract increasing support, adding that the latest development further consolidates its standing as a dominant political force in the state.

According to the governor, the APC is well-positioned and fully prepared to secure victory in all elective positions in upcoming elections. He attributed the party’s confidence to growing unity among members and ongoing strategic political alignments.

Yusuf also assured party faithful that the leadership remained committed to strengthening internal cohesion and expanding its grassroots structures across Kano State.

He called on members and supporters to remain steadfast and intensify mobilisation efforts ahead of future political contests.

Meanwhile, Shekarau, a two-term former governor of Kano State, announced his decision to join the APC while addressing supporters at his Mundubawa residence in Kano on Sunday.

He explained that the move followed extensive consultations with his political associates and a careful assessment of available options.

“We took the decision after wide deliberations and weighing several options, which include joining the APC after realising that the Peoples Democratic Party is facing many challenges,” Shekarau said.

He also dismissed the possibility of aligning with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as a party driven by personal interests and struggling to establish itself.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Shekarau’s return to the APC is expected to reshape the political landscape in Kano as parties intensify preparations for future elections.
