By Editor Rescue teams are searching for 17 people who remain missing after a Vietnamese cargo vessel, Khoi Nguyen 18, sank during severe weather in the South China Sea.
According to Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ship was carrying 62 people when it ran into rough seas and encountered difficulties before eventually sinking.
Vietnamese rescue authorities, supported by Chinese search-and-rescue teams, have so far rescued 45 people. Search operations remain underway to locate the missing passengers.
The incident reportedly occurred near Fiery Cross Reef in the disputed Spratly Islands, a region claimed by both Vietnam and China.
Authorities said rescue efforts are continuing as emergency responders work to find the missing individuals and determine the cause of the sinking.
