Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the formation of a Fact-Finding and Reconciliation Committee following a security alert from the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding renewed tensions at the Ihya’us Sunnah Juma’at Mosque in Gwammaja, Dala Local Government Area.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by Musa Tanko, Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
According to the SSG, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, both factions involved in the conflict have been urged to maintain peace and uphold Islamic values while the committee carries out its assignment. He noted that members of the panel were selected based on merit, fairness, and integrity.
The committee chaired by the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Ahmad Auwal has been tasked with identifying the immediate and remote causes of the dispute between the Chief Imam, Malam Abubakar Goron-Maje, and the mosque’s principal benefactor, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba.
Its mandate includes inviting the disputing parties, reviewing all circumstances surrounding the crisis, examining internal and external influences, and facilitating dialogue where necessary. The committee is expected to submit actionable recommendations within four weeks.
