The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media as part of efforts to enhance public awareness, improve border security, and promote national development.

This formed the focus of the Zone B Media Parley organised by the Service under the theme: “Building Synergy Between the Media and Customs for Enhanced Stakeholders Awareness and National Development.”

Speaking during the event, the Acting Customs Controller of the Kano/Katsina Area Command, Usman Adamu, praised the National Public Relations Unit of the Service for organising the parley, describing it as a strategic platform for deepening cooperation between the media and Customs.

Adamu noted that the media plays a vital role in informing the public about the activities and achievements of the Service. He also appreciated journalists for the support extended to the Kano/Katsina Area Command since he assumed office as Acting Area Controller.

In his welcome address, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano/Jigawa Command, CSP Tahir Balarabe, said the engagement was designed to strengthen collaboration between the Nigeria Customs Service and the public through effective dissemination of information.

According to him, the initiative would help ensure that accurate and timely information about Customs operations reaches Nigerians, while also improving public understanding of the Service’s responsibilities and activities.

Also speaking, the National Public Relations Officer and Chief Image Maker of the Nigeria Customs Service, DCC Abdullahi Maiwada, commended media practitioners for their continued support and professionalism in reporting the activities of the Service.

Maiwada described the media as a critical partner in national development through public sensitisation and awareness creation. He added that the theme of the parley reflected the changing dynamics of modern Customs operations.

He disclosed that the Service had intensified efforts in information technology development and technology-driven operations aimed at improving efficiency and service delivery, stressing the importance of accurate information dissemination to the public.

According to Maiwada, Nigerians depend on credible information for their daily activities, making the media an indispensable stakeholder in the operations of the Nigeria Customs Service.

He further revealed that the Service maintains strong working relationships with various media organisations across the country and disseminates information in different languages to ensure wider reach and better public understanding.

Maiwada urged journalists to sustain their support and professionalism in promoting the activities of the Nigeria Customs Service for the overall growth and development of the country.
