BUK Unveils Solar-Powered Tricycles to Promote Green Campus TransportIn a major step toward sustainable mobility and environmental conservation, Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has launched ten solar-powered tricycles to enhance transportation across its campuses.

The eco-friendly initiative is part of the university’s commitment to integrating renewable energy solutions into its operations.

It also aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, described the project as a landmark achievement that reflects BUK’s dedication to innovation and sustainability.

“Today, we are delighted to receive ten solar-powered tricycles that will operate within the university to ease transportation challenges for our students and staff. We are also expecting an additional ten soon,” Professor Musa said.

He added that with the existing eight petrol-powered tricycles, a total of twenty-eight tricycles will soon serve the university community.

Professor Musa noted that the solar tricycles would not only improve mobility but also help reduce the university’s carbon footprint. He urged users to handle the vehicles responsibly as a shared asset of the BUK community.

The event was attended by top university officials, including Deputy Vice Chancellors Professor Aliyu Muazu and Professor Amina Mustapha, Registrar Malam Haruna Aliyu, Bursar Malam Rabi’u Dauda, and University Librarian Dr. Kabiru Dahiru Abbas.

The introduction of solar-powered tricycles places Bayero University, Kano, at the forefront of green innovation and sustainable transportation among Nigerian higher institutions.
