Northwest University Kano Expels 34 Students Over Examination Malpractice, Rusticates 18 Others

Northwest University Kano has expelled 34 students over their involvement in examination malpractice, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining academic integrity.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Head of the University’s Public Relations Unit, Abubakar Ibrahim, on behalf of the Registrar, Dr. Isyaku Adamu.

According to the statement, the University’s Senate approved the expulsion during its 66th statutory meeting held on Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18, 2026, following recommendations by the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct arising from the Second Semester 2024/2025 examinations.

“The Senate of the university at its 66th statutory meeting held on Wednesday, 17th and Thursday, 18th June 2026 approved the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct arising from the Second Semester 2024/2025 Examination,” the statement read.


The university said the disciplinary action was taken in line with its Examination Regulations as contained in the Students’ Handbook.

Beyond the expulsions, the Senate also approved the rustication of 18 students for various examination-related offences, while 22 others received warning letters.

The statement further disclosed that one student, Rukayya Ahmad Zukuri, was cleared of wrongdoing after the Senate reviewed her case and found no basis for disciplinary action.

Northwest University Kano reiterated its commitment to upholding academic standards and urged students to strictly comply with the institution’s examination rules and regulations.
