The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Kano State, Abdu Usman Yalo, is facing mounting criticism following allegations of misconduct and abuse involving a secondary school principal during an official training workshop.

The incident reportedly took place at a three-day workshop for Kano State secondary school principals held in Kaduna from March 26 to 28, 2026. The training programme was aimed at enhancing leadership and administrative capacity among school heads.

Tensions allegedly escalated on the second day of the workshop when a disagreement arose over seating arrangements inside the conference hall.

According to multiple participants, there were no formally designated seats for attendees.

The Principal of GGASS Garun Babba, Malam Abubakar Ahmed, who is at the centre of the controversy, accused Yalo of acting in an unprofessional and aggressive manner.

Speaking to journalists, Ahmed said Yalo approached him and other colleagues, insisting they vacate their seats, claiming the spots had been reserved from the previous day.

Ahmed alleged that when he refused, Yalo forcefully pushed him off his chair, verbally abused him, and, with the support of some associates, attempted to physically assault him before other participants intervened to restore calm.

He further noted that he had no prior relationship with Yalo and is not even a member of the ASUSS union.

Eyewitnesses have also raised concerns about what they describe as a pattern of similar behavior, accusing Yalo of repeatedly disrespecting education officials and abusing his office. Some cited previous incidents involving disputes with school administrators and officials of the Kano State Secondary Schools Management Board.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, critics say no disciplinary action has been taken so far by relevant authorities.
Efforts to obtain a response from Yalo were unsuccessful, as he declined to comment on the matter.

Stakeholders are now urging the Kano State Government and education authorities to launch an immediate investigation, stressing that accountability and professionalism must be upheld within the education sector.
