The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially laid the foundation for the construction of a modern secondary school in Kaura Goge, Nasarawa Local Government Area, as part of efforts to expand access to quality education in the state.

The new school, described as a mega project, is expected to replace the once-prominent Maikwatashi School, which had fallen into disrepair and suffered land encroachment, with portions allegedly sold off by unscrupulous individuals.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony, Governor Yusuf said the project fulfills his earlier promise to the community to provide a befitting learning environment for students affected by the deterioration of the former school.

He also revealed that the ownership of the Maikwatashi School has been transferred to the Kano State College of Arts and Islamic Studies (CAS), to ensure its continued use for educational purposes.

According to the governor, the new school will significantly reduce the burden on students in the area who currently travel long distances, particularly to Sabon Gari, in search of education.

“There are a large number of students in this community who have to go as far as Sabon Gari to attend school. This project is aimed at bringing education closer to them,” he said.

Governor Yusuf called on residents to support the project and cooperate with contractors, while also urging the contractors to maintain high standards and deliver quality work.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Goni Ali Haruna Makoda, disclosed that the project is valued at N1.3 billion. He added that the school will feature 32 classrooms, 36 toilets, four libraries, and other essential facilities.

Makoda described the project as a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to fulfilling his promises and improving the education sector in Kano State.

The development was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
