Thousands of eligible voters on Saturday turned out across polling units in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas of Kano State to participate in the House of Representatives by-election for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency.

The exercise witnessed impressive voter participation from the early hours of the day, with residents arriving at polling centres in large numbers to elect a representative to the National Assembly.

Voting was conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere as voters queued patiently to cast their ballots, while election officials carried out accreditation and voting procedures without major disruptions.

Reports from several polling units indicated that voting commenced on schedule, with voters demonstrating enthusiasm and commitment to the democratic process.

Security personnel were deployed across strategic locations to ensure the safety of voters, election officials and electoral materials.

Speaking after monitoring the exercise at various polling centres, the Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Danjuma Mahmoud, commended residents for their maturity, discipline and peaceful conduct throughout the election.

He described the turnout as remarkable, saying it reflected the electorate’s confidence in the democratic process and their determination to participate actively in governance.

According to Mahmoud, the orderly conduct of voters and compliance with electoral guidelines underscored the growing political awareness among constituents and their commitment to sustaining democratic values.

The commissioner also praised security agencies and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their professionalism and dedication in ensuring a smooth and credible electoral process.

Some voters who spoke with journalists expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, describing the process as peaceful, transparent and well-organised. They urged electoral authorities to sustain the improvements recorded during the by-election in future polls.

As voting continued across the constituency, political party agents and election observers monitored proceedings in line with electoral regulations, while accreditation and balloting proceeded smoothly.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant House of Representatives seat representing the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency.

Residents expressed optimism that the eventual winner would focus on effective representation, infrastructure development and the welfare of the people.

Political analysts noted that the large voter turnout highlighted the importance attached to the election by constituents and reflected increasing citizen participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

At the close of voting, electoral officials commenced the sorting and counting of ballots in the presence of party agents, observers and members of the public, while residents awaited the official declaration of results by INEC.
