Tarauni Local Government Area has recorded significant success in its latest polio immunization campaign, with a total of 66,446 children vaccinated during the exercise.
The Primary Health Care Coordinator for the area, Alhaji Muktar Datti Gwarzo, disclosed this in an interview with the Information Officer, Adamu Iliyasu Hotoro, at his office. He described the outcome as a major milestone in the ongoing effort to eradicate polio from the community.
Gwarzo attributed the achievement to the strong collaboration and support received from community members, traditional leaders, health workers, and the leadership of the Tarauni Local Government. According to him, their collective commitment ensured that eligible children across the area were successfully reached and immunized.
He emphasized that the local health authorities would continue to intensify awareness campaigns to educate residents on the importance of routine immunization, noting that sustained efforts are critical to completely eliminating polio.
Also speaking, the Health Educator in the area, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi Shamakawa, commended the dedication of health workers and traditional rulers for their role in sensitizing parents and caregivers on the benefits of vaccination.
In his remarks, the Director of Personnel Management in Tarauni Local Government and Chairman of the Forum of 44 Local Government Directors, Comrade Tijjani Madaki Gulya, urged parents and caregivers to remain supportive of immunization initiatives. He stressed that continued participation is essential to protecting children and ensuring a healthier community.
The successful exercise marks another step forward in the fight against polio, reinforcing the importance of community-driven health interventions.
