Kano Police Assures Peaceful 2027 Elections, Begins Security Preparations

The Kano State Police Command has assured residents of its readiness to provide adequate security before, during and after the 2027 General Elections, as it called on citizens to shun acts capable of disrupting peace in the state.

The assurance was given on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when the Command received a delegation from the National Peace Committee, through the Secretariat of The Kukah Centre, on a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration and engaging key stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa the delegation was led by Mr. Espom Ajanya, Junior Programme Manager at The Kukah Centre, Secretariat of the National Peace Committee.

Speaking during the visit, Ajanya said the engagement formed part of the National Peace Committee’s preparations for the 2027 General Elections and was designed to assess the prevailing electoral and security situation across the country.

He said the Committee was engaging critical stakeholders to identify emerging concerns and opportunities and develop interventions that would promote peaceful elections.

“In preparation for the 2027 General Elections, the National Peace Committee, through its Secretariat, is engaging critical stakeholders across the country to assess the prevailing electoral and security landscape, identify emerging concerns and opportunities, and better guide our interventions towards promoting peaceful elections.”

Ajanya added that the delegation was in Kano to discuss the state’s electoral and security landscape, address emerging concerns and explore areas of collaboration that could contribute to peaceful elections.

The delegation also commended the Kano State Police Command for what it described as its professionalism, proactive policing strategies and sustained efforts to maintain peace and security across the state.

Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, welcomed the delegation and described the visit as timely and significant.

The Commissioner emphasised that peace must remain the priority before, during and after the elections, assuring residents that the Command was adequately prepared for the electoral period.

“Your coming is apt. What we need first is peace. We are well prepared for the elections, and we call on the good people of Kano State to shun any act that may disrupt the peace during the forthcoming elections.”

CP Bakori further assured the delegation that the Command would continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including other security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other critical partners, to ensure a safe and conducive environment for the successful conduct of the 2027 General Elections.

According to him, the Command has already commenced a series of measures ahead of the elections, including the training of officers on election security, engagement with political stakeholders, extensive public enlightenment and sensitisation, as well as the strengthening of intelligence-gathering mechanisms.

The Commissioner reiterated the importance of continuous dialogue and collaboration among security agencies, electoral stakeholders, political actors, civil society organisations and communities in preventing violence and sustaining peace throughout the electoral process.

The Kano State Police Command expressed appreciation to the National Peace Committee for the engagement and reaffirmed its commitment to continuous dialogue, collaboration and community engagement as key measures for sustaining peace, public safety and security before, during and after the 2027 General Elections.
