The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved its Kano State Executive Committee and appointed a caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs pending the establishment of a new leadership.
The Deputy National Chairman (North-West) of the party, Hajiya Najaatu Mohammed, announced the decision on Monday while addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre in Kano.
Mohammed said the dissolution was carried out in accordance with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act, and the leadership’s responsibility to safeguard the future of the ADC in Kano State.
She explained that the move was driven by constitutional obligation rather than personal preference.
“This important action is not out of preference, but out of constitutional duty. Every action taken has been guided by the Constitution of our party, the Electoral Act, and our collective responsibility to protect the future of the ADC in Kano State,” she said.
According to her, the party’s constitution provides a lawful framework for restoring stability, ensuring continuity, and preventing disruptions whenever a leadership vacuum arises.
“The national leadership of our great party has discharged one of its most important obligations to preserve the unity, continuity and constitutional integrity of the African Democratic Congress in Kano State,” she stated.
Mohammed noted that responsible leadership must act decisively whenever circumstances create a vacuum within a political organisation, stressing that order, discipline and continuity are essential for any political party to function effectively.
She, however, urged members not to view the caretaker committee as a verdict on the loyalty or contributions of party faithful in the state.
“The constitution of a caretaker committee must never be interpreted as a judgment on the commitment, loyalty or contributions of the thousands of faithful members of our party across Kano State. Our members remain the greatest strength of this party,” she said.
She acknowledged the sacrifices made by members who have dedicated their time, resources and reputation to building the party at the grassroots, including those who remained committed during politically challenging periods.
The ADC chieftain called on stakeholders and members across Kano State to support the caretaker committee and the transition process in the interest of the party.
“If we remain faithful to our Constitution and our democratic ideals, the future of the African Democratic Congress in Kano State will be stronger than ever before,” she added.
The newly inaugurated caretaker committee is chaired by Alhaji Umar Bala, while Isma’il Musa will serve as secretary..
