The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Issa Aremu, have endorsed Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for a second term, citing his performance and commitment to public welfare.
The endorsement came during the disbursement of the sixth batch of gratuities and death benefits worth N5 billion, alongside the conferment of a Fellowship of MINILS on the governor at the Government House in Kano on Wednesday.
Both leaders praised Governor Yusuf’s people-oriented policies and developmental strides, noting that his administration has met the expectations of the electorate.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Yilwatda commended the governor’s impact on citizens’ lives and pledged full political support for his re-election bid. He also assured backing for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
In his remarks, Comrade Aremu emphasized that “organized labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its affiliates, would mobilize support for Governor Yusuf in appreciation of his worker-friendly policies”.
He subsequently conferred the Fellowship of MINILS on the governor, recognizing his administration’s dedication to improving workers’ welfare.
Responding, Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to good governance. He also assured APC leaders of Kano State’s support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
“I am deeply honoured to receive this Fellowship Award,” the governor said. “I dedicate it to the people of Kano State. It will inspire me to further strengthen my efforts in delivering meaningful development.”
The ceremony also featured the reading of the governor’s citation by Alhaji Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, a close associate and public relations expert.
Meanwhile, beneficiaries of the gratuity payments expressed appreciation to the state government for easing their financial burdens. One retiree revealed she received N7 million instantly, despite having less than N1,000 in her account prior to the payment.
The event underscores the administration’s continued focus on welfare and social support, while also strengthening political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
