2027: Atiku Will Be a Present, Responsive President, ADC Campaign Council Assures Nigerians

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has assured Nigerians that its presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, would provide a physically present and responsive presidency if elected in the 2027 general elections.

The council said Abubakar would not be an “absentee president” but would remain accessible and available to address critical national challenges requiring presidential attention.

Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Kola Ologbondiyan, gave the assurance on Monday in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Atiku Unity Movement (AUM), led by its leader, Francis Eburuwe.

Ologbondiyan said Abubakar had consistently demonstrated an understanding of Nigeria’s economic and social challenges and had offered policy proposals aimed at addressing them.

He recalled that during the 2023 presidential campaign, Abubakar advocated a phased withdrawal of fuel subsidy, arguing that the process should be managed in a way that would minimise its impact on Nigerians.

According to Ologbondiyan, developments over the past three years have further underscored the need for a presidency that is accessible, responsive and capable of taking timely decisions in the national interest.

“The country needs a President who understands the challenges confronting Nigerians and is physically available to respond to the demands of governance,” he said.

“Nigeria cannot afford a situation in which there is uncertainty over who is effectively directing the affairs of government at critical moments. The country requires firm and focused leadership.”

Ologbondiyan said Abubakar’s proposed approach to governance would focus on tackling economic difficulties, improving citizens’ welfare and restoring confidence in public institutions.

He added that the former vice president’s recent economic proposals included measures aimed at reducing the pressure created by rising energy and living costs.

According to him, Abubakar has also proposed a production-based intervention for petroleum products refined domestically, subject to a fixed spending limit, National Assembly approval and independent audits.

Earlier, Eburuwe said the Atiku Unity Movement was committed to Abubakar’s candidacy and would mobilise support for the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the movement would take Abubakar’s message to Nigerians across the country and pledged continued grassroots mobilisation for the ADC presidential campaign.
