Senate Receives Tinubu’s State Police Bill as Senator Sani Musa Joins Emergency Plenary

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa (CON), who represents Niger East Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, participated in an emergency plenary session of the Senate where lawmakers considered key national issues, including a proposed constitutional framework for state policing.

During the session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read a communication from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu forwarding the Nigeria State Police Bill to the Senate for legislative consideration.

The proposed legislation seeks to establish a constitutional basis for the creation of state police services through the decentralisation of policing across the country. According to the President’s letter, the bill aims to strengthen national security by introducing a dual policing structure equipped with additional safeguards to address emerging and evolving security challenges.

Senator Musa joined fellow lawmakers in deliberating on the proposal and other legislative matters brought before the chamber during the emergency sitting.

Following the plenary, the Niger East lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation, emphasizing his dedication to supporting policies and legislation that promote national development, enhance security, and improve the welfare of Nigerians.

The Senate subsequently adjourned after concluding deliberations on the items listed on its agenda.
