The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has celebrated its 60th Anniversary Conference in Kano, with the inauguration of its Kano Chapter and a renewed call for stronger governance, accountability and institutional development in Nigeria.

The landmark event brought together governance professionals, business leaders, policymakers, academics and stakeholders from across the country to commemorate six decades of the institute’s contributions to corporate governance and professional excellence.

Delivering the keynote address, the Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, emphasized the critical role of strong institutions and ethical leadership in national development.

According to the monarch, sustainable economic growth can only be achieved through transparency, accountability and effective governance structures.

“Institutions are the foundation of every successful society.

Those entrusted with governance responsibilities must uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability,” Sanusi stated.

Speaking at the conference, ICSAN President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Mrs. Uto Ukpanah, described the anniversary as a significant milestone in the institute’s history.

She said the celebration offered an opportunity to reflect on the institute’s achievements over the last 60 years while positioning it for greater impact in the future.

“For six decades, ICSAN has championed corporate governance, administrative excellence and professional development in Nigeria.

We remain committed to shaping governance and empowering future generations of professionals,” she said.

Ukpanah noted that the inauguration of the Kano Chapter would strengthen the institute’s presence in Northern Nigeria and create opportunities for professional growth, mentorship and collaboration among members.

“The Kano Chapter will serve as a platform for promoting governance best practices and expanding our reach across the region,” she added.

Participants at the conference commended the institute for its role in advancing ethical leadership and good governance in both public and private sector organizations.

The event featured panel discussions, networking sessions and the formal inauguration of the Kano Chapter, marking a new phase in ICSAN’s efforts to deepen professional engagement nationwide.

Founded in 1966, ICSAN remains one of Nigeria’s leading professional bodies dedicated to corporate governance, company secretarial practice and administrative excellence.
