The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this on Monday while briefing journalists at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

According to Bakori, the operation was carried out between June 5 and June 7 across all 44 local government areas of the state. He said the exercise targeted criminal hideouts, identified black spots, and drug distribution centres based on intelligence reports and information provided by residents.

The police commissioner explained that the operation was part of intensified efforts to tackle thuggery, drug trafficking, violent crimes and other criminal activities, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police.

He revealed that the 345 suspects arrested include suspected thugs, drug dealers and individuals found in possession of offensive weapons. The suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be prosecuted where sufficient evidence is established.

Bakori further disclosed that security operatives recovered 270 dangerous weapons, including knives, cutlasses, clubs and other items commonly used in violent attacks.

He added that large quantities of suspected illicit substances were seized during the operation. The recovered drugs include Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets and a locally known drug mixture referred to as “Suck and Die.”

According to him, the seizure of the weapons and drugs has significantly disrupted the activities of criminal elements and enhanced security in affected communities.

The commissioner attributed the success of the operation to the efforts of Operation Kukan Kura and the recently established Violent Crime Response Unit.

He noted that Operation Kukan Kura has strengthened visibility policing, improved response times to distress calls and reduced opportunities for criminals to operate within the state.

Bakori also said the Violent Crime Response Unit has boosted the Command’s ability to respond swiftly to armed violence and gang-related crimes through intelligence-driven interventions.

Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to law enforcement, he stressed that criminality in any form would not be tolerated in Kano State.

He added that available security data and feedback from residents indicate a decline in crime rates in several parts of the state, attributing the improvement to sustained security operations, enhanced intelligence gathering and the dedication of police personnel.

The commissioner commended the Kano State Government for its continued support to security agencies and praised residents for providing useful information that has aided crime-fighting efforts.

He urged members of the public to continue reporting suspicious activities and movements, assuring them that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.

Bakori also warned individuals involved in violence, drug trafficking and other criminal activities that Kano State would no longer be a safe haven for criminals.

He assured residents that the Command would sustain intelligence-led operations, raids and prosecutions aimed at further reducing crime and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
