Kano Task Force Unites Security Agencies, Stakeholders to Tackle Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking

The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking has reaffirmed its commitment to a coordinated and sustained campaign against drug abuse, illicit drug trafficking, thuggery, and other related crimes across the state.

The Secretary of the task force, Dr. Ibrahim Garba Muhammad, made this known in a statement issued on Saturday after the committee held its maiden meeting in Kano.

According to Muhammad, the meeting brought together representatives of government ministries, security agencies, and key stakeholders to develop a unified strategy for addressing the growing challenge of drug abuse and its link to criminal activities.

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the task force, Barr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, and attended by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajo Usman, the Kano State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Dr. Mustapha (DAG), as well as other members.

Speaking at the meeting, Rimingado described the task force as a strategic platform established by the Kano State Government to coordinate efforts aimed at curbing drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He stressed that the success of the initiative would depend on effective collaboration and shared commitment among all participating agencies.

He said the task force would prioritise intelligence sharing, coordinated law enforcement operations, public sensitisation, rehabilitation programmes, and sustained community engagement as part of its comprehensive strategy to combat drug-related crimes.
Rimingado also disclosed that the committee would work closely with security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, educational institutions, youth groups, and community leaders to develop practical measures that would protect young people and strengthen peace and security across the state.

Members of the task force, in their separate contributions, pledged full support for the initiative, calling for stronger inter-agency cooperation, proactive intelligence gathering, increased community participation, and sustained public awareness campaigns.

At the end of the meeting, the committee resolved to strengthen institutional collaboration, develop an operational framework for the task force, and immediately commence coordinated activities in line with the directives of the Kano State Government.

The task force also appealed to members of the public to support its efforts by providing credible information and cooperating with relevant authorities in the fight against drug abuse, illicit trafficking, and other related criminal activities in the state.
