Gov. Yusuf Reaffirms Support for Journalists, Pledges More Capacity Building as Kano NUJ Online Chapel Honours Him

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and other media organisations through sustained capacity-building initiatives and policies aimed at strengthening professionalism in the journalism sector.

The governor made the pledge on Friday while receiving an Award of Excellence from the Kano Online Media Chapel of the NUJ at the Government House in Kano.

Governor Yusuf described the media as a vital partner in democratic governance, public accountability, and sustainable development, commending members of the Online Media Chapel for their professionalism, dedication to truth, and commitment to responsible journalism.

He said the recognition would further motivate his administration to deepen its support for media development in the state.

“Our administration will continue to support the NUJ and other media organisations through initiatives that build the capacity of journalists and promote professionalism. A vibrant and credible media is essential for good governance, peace, and development,” the governor said.

He also urged journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession by ensuring accuracy, fairness, and objectivity in their reportage, stressing that responsible journalism remains critical to strengthening democracy and maintaining public trust.

The award presentation, held at the Council Chamber of the Government House, was attended by members of the Kano State Executive Council and other senior government officials.

Presenting the award, Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abubakar Dangambo, said the honour was in recognition of Governor Yusuf’s contributions to media development and his consistent support for journalists in Kano State.

Dangambo said the administration’s investment in training and capacity building had equipped members of the Chapel with modern digital reporting skills, enabling them to meet the evolving demands of online journalism while maintaining professionalism, accuracy, and ethical standards.

He also commended the governor for recognising the growing role of online media in promoting transparency, public awareness, and democratic governance, describing the award as a gesture of appreciation from journalists who have directly benefited from the administration’s media-friendly policies.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, lauded the Kano Online Media Chapel for its commitment to professional excellence.

Waiya described the media as an indispensable partner in governance, noting that credible and ethical journalism remains essential for keeping citizens informed and enhancing government accountability.
