Security operatives in Zamfara State have successfully foiled a coordinated attack by armed bandits on Kanoma Town and Gidan Daji Village in Maru Local Government Area, killing six of the attackers during a fierce gun battle.
The Zamfara State Police Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
According to the statement, the operation was launched following a distress call reporting an imminent attack on the two communities.
In response, a joint security team comprising Police Tactical Operatives from the Maru Division, personnel of Operation Fansar Yamma, operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and local vigilantes swiftly mobilised to confront the assailants.
The security forces engaged the bandits in a gun duel and successfully repelled the attack, forcing the criminals to flee into nearby forests.
The police said six bandits, who were riding on two motorcycles, were neutralised during the exchange of fire, while several others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.
The command further confirmed that no civilian or security operative was killed or injured during the operation.
Police authorities commended the swift collaboration among security agencies and local vigilantes, reiterating their commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements across the state.
