Police Arrest Suspected Kidnapper, Recover Drone in Kano Border Operations

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected kidnapper and alleged cattle-rustling syndicate member while also recovering a cine-camera drone during separate clearance operations across the state.

The operations, according to the Command, were carried out as part of ongoing interstate patrols and clearance operations along the Kano-Kaduna and Kano-Katsina borders, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

Suspected Kidnapper Arrested

The Police said operatives of its Anti-Kidnapping Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested 35-year-old Habibu Bello, a resident of Kunkumi Town in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on September 14, 2026, at about 4:48 p.m.

According to the Command, Bello is suspected of being a member of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in kidnapping, armed robbery and cattle rustling across Kano, Kaduna and Katsina states.

The Police said further investigation led to the arrest of another alleged member of the syndicate, identified as Mudam, from Kwanar Dangora.

The Command alleged that the suspects confessed to involvement in several kidnapping incidents and cattle-rustling activities.

Among the incidents mentioned by the Police was the alleged abduction of Hajiya Binta, a resident of Kwanar Dangora, for which the Command said a ransom of ₦20 million was reportedly paid.

The Police also linked the suspects to an alleged kidnapping and ransom collection involving a household in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, as well as cattle-rustling operations across Kano, Kaduna and Katsina states.

The Command said investigations are continuing, with efforts underway to arrest other members of the alleged syndicate and recover weapons reportedly used in their operations.

Police Recover Cine-Camera Drone

In a separate development, Police operatives conducting a clearance operation on September 17, 2026, at about 2 p.m., recovered a GT 50 cine-camera drone at Hawan Tarau Village in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to the Police, the drone was found lying on the ground in the area. The Command said efforts are ongoing to determine its origin and identify its owner.

The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the operatives for what he described as their gallantry and pledged that the Command would sustain clearance operations in collaboration with neighbouring police commands.

The Commissioner also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines:
