Senator Mohammed Sani Musa’s emergence as the consensus candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger East Senatorial District has been linked to his record of people-oriented representation and grassroots development since assuming office in 2019.
Across the district, residents and party stakeholders say the lawmaker has distinguished himself through interventions in healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure, security support, and empowerment programmes targeted at improving livelihoods.
For many constituents, Senator Musa’s stewardship reflects the essence of democracy governance that directly impacts the wellbeing of the people through practical and sustainable initiatives.
One of his most celebrated programmes is the education support scheme that has enabled hundreds of students from rural communities to pursue higher education in Nigeria and abroad.
Beneficiaries say the initiative has opened opportunities previously beyond the reach of many families and is helping to build a new generation of professionals from the district.
In the health sector, the senator facilitated the construction and equipping of hospitals across Niger East with modern facilities and trained personnel, improving access to healthcare services in underserved communities.
Infrastructure development has also remained a major focus of his representation.
Several township roads have been constructed within the district to ease transportation, stimulate local commerce, and improve connectivity between communities.
In agriculture, Senator Musa has supported farmers with tractors and other modern farming implements aimed at boosting mechanised farming and increasing food production across the zone.
Beyond development projects, the senator has also supported security agencies operating in the district by providing logistics and other assistance to strengthen efforts at protecting lives and property.
These interventions, according to many residents, explain the growing support for his continued representation in the Senate.
Malam Mohammad Usman, a resident of Suleja, described Senator Musa as “a voice for the common man,” saying his family directly benefited from the senator’s scholarship programme.
“My son is currently studying medicine abroad through the support of Senator Sani Musa,” he said. “We have had senators before, but this is the first time many people feel truly represented.”
Similarly, Alhaji Abba Mohammad of Paikoro said the senator’s achievements in education and agriculture had positively impacted many families across the district.
“My son and even my neighbour are studying abroad because of his interventions,” he said.
“Farmers in our community have also benefited from agricultural support.
Senator Sani Musa has delivered.”
In Kagara Local Government Area, Hajiya Zainab Abu said women and youths across the district were ready to support the senator because of his commitment to the welfare of ordinary people.
“He has shown sincerity and genuine concern for the downtrodden,” she stated.
Why APC Chose Musa as Consensus Candidate
Political stakeholders within the APC said the decision to adopt Senator Musa as consensus candidate was based on several factors, including his performance in office, political acceptability, and the need to maintain party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Party leaders noted that his strong grassroots structure across the nine local government areas of the district, combined with the goodwill generated through his empowerment programmes, positioned him as the best candidate to retain the seat for the APC.
Governor Umaru Bago, who chaired the stakeholders’ meeting, said the consensus arrangement was necessary to preserve peace, strengthen internal democracy, and avoid unnecessary division within the party.
Stakeholders also commended the other aspirants for accepting the arrangement in the interest of party cohesion and collective success.
According to Governor Bago, the resolution demonstrated the APC’s commitment to dialogue and democratic engagement in resolving internal political disputes.
Observers believe the development has further consolidated Senator Musa’s standing within Niger East and strengthened the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
