Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya has been named Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano following the reported sacking of Hashimu Dungurawa, party officials said.
The NNPP State Executive Committee (SEC) endorsed Abiya’s appointment at an emergency meeting held at the party secretariat in Kano on Tuesday, Barrister Yusuf Mukhtar, the party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, announced. Mukhtar said the move was carried out in line with provisions of the NNPP constitution.
According to Communitypen, the decision followed a formal resolution from the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area Executive Committee, led by Hon. Abdullahi Ali Uban Iya Dawanau, which sought the removal and expulsion of Dungurawa. The resolution—originally forwarded by the Gargari Ward Executive—was adopted at the ward’s second executive meeting held two weeks after the general election, with members accusing Dungurawa of anti‑party activities.
After reviewing the submitted report, the State EXCO endorsed the resolution and approved Abiya’s elevation to acting chairman. Party sources said the change aims to restore internal discipline, strengthen cohesion, and reposition the NNPP ahead of future political engagements in Kano State.
In response to his appointment, Abiya pledged to “do justice to all manner of people” and reaffirmed loyalty to the party’s national leader, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Kano State Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.
It remained unclear whether the NNPP national leadership or the Kano State government would formally endorse the change of leadership
