Kano State Police say they arrested 3,081 suspects in 2025 as part of an aggressive, intelligence‑led campaign to curb thuggery, robbery, kidnapping and drug-related crimes. Commissioner of Police Brahim Adamu Bakori, who took office on 17 March 2025, briefed journalists at the Bompai Command Headquarters on 30 December, outlining a year-long roadmap and the results of targeted operations across all 44 local government areas.

“We carried out a crime‑mapping exercise and implemented a focused strategy — community policing, intelligence‑led operations, capacity building, joint border patrols and the expansion of our Cybercrime Unit,” CP Bakori said. “These measures produced tangible results and culminated in the launch of Operation Kukan Kura, which has significantly reduced thuggery and mobile phone robberies.”

Under the Command’s drive, notable arrests included suspected armed robbers (146), kidnappers (50), drug dealers (112), motor vehicle thieves (85), tricycle and motorcycle thieves (45 and 83 respectively), general thieves (154), fraudsters (56) and 2,350 suspected thugs (Yan‑Daba). Fourteen kidnapping victims were rescued during the year, the Commissioner added.

Seizures during operations were extensive: nine AK‑47 rifles, multiple pistols and revolver firearms, dozens of locally fabricated guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and thousands of bladed weapons (including nearly 300 cutlasses and over 600 knives). The Command also recovered 94 motor vehicles, 52 tricycles, 99 motorcycles, 15 cattle, 145 mobile phones and numerous POS/ATM instruments. Large quantities of illicit substances and pharmaceuticals were intercepted — including parcels and wraps of cannabis, tens of thousands of pills of Diazepam, Pregabalin and Tramadol, cartons of Exol, bottles of codeine syrup and locally used intoxicants.

“The strategies in place are yielding tremendous results and will not only be sustained, but improved upon,” CP Bakori affirmed, promising intensified community engagement, 24/7 visibility patrols, strengthened intelligence generation, and increased manpower and equipment — especially at border areas — into 2026. He thanked the Kano State Government, security partners, traditional and community leaders, the media, civil society, vigilante groups and the people of Kano for their cooperation, and paid tribute to the Command’s officers for their sacrifices.

“We have all the reasons to thank Almighty Allah for these successes,” he concluded, calling the progress a foundation for greater political and economic stability in the state and pledging continued collaboration with the public to keep the gains.
