Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has described the call for his arrest by the Kano State Government as reckless, baseless, and evidence of administrative incompetence.

In a statement released on Friday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed claims that he made comments suggesting the establishment of a militia group, insisting the allegations were unfounded and driven by political motives.

The former governor accused the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of abandoning its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property. He said the call for his arrest reflects desperation rather than sound governance.

According to the statement, the Ganduje administration maintained relative peace in the state for eight years, a record he claimed earned national commendation. He stressed that he has never been associated with violence or any actions capable of undermining peace in Kano.

“It is deeply unfortunate that instead of addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” the statement read.

Ganduje noted that insecurity is worsening in communities such as Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, where residents now live in fear. He criticized the governor for failing to visit or console affected victims, describing this as a clear demonstration of disconnect from the people.

He urged Governor Yusuf to focus on his constitutional duties rather than engaging in “political theatrics and unfounded allegations.”

“Leadership is demonstrated through purposeful action, responsibility, and compassion—not through press conferences and frivolous statements aimed at diverting public attention from one’s failures,” the statement added.

The statement was signed by Edwin Olofu, Chief Press Secretary to Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
