Former Senate President and National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Senator Okey Ezea, describing the loss as devastating and a major setback for the nation.
In a condolence message addressed to the 10th Senate, the government and people of Enugu State, and the late senator’s family, Mark said he received the news with “profound grief and a heavy heart.”

According to him, the passing of Senator Ezeawho represented Enugu North Senatorial Zone—has cut short a promising political career and the aspirations of his constituents.
“His death is a painful blow—not only to the people of Enugu North and the South-East, but to the entire Nigerian Senate family and our nation at large,” he said.
Mark described Ezea as a man of “uncommon courage, deep conviction, and unwavering loyalty to the ideals of democracy,” noting that he distinguished himself in every political and legislative engagement.
“He spoke truth as he saw it, stood firm where others wavered, and offered service without fear or favour. His passing is not just the end of a legislative journey—it is the departure of a patriot whose voice, compassion, and clarity of purpose stood out in our national discourse.”
The former Senate President added that Senator Ezea embodied the hopes and aspirations of his constituents and worked tirelessly for justice, fairness, and development.
Mark also reflected personally on their relationship, noting:
“I mourn Senator Ezea not only as a fellow parliamentarian but as a brother—one who enriched the Senate with his passion, intellect, and sincerity of heart. His death leaves a painful void that will be difficult to fill.”
He emphasized that the nation has lost a dedicated public servant.
“Nigeria has lost a fine legislator; Enugu State has lost a devoted son; and I have lost a trusted friend.”
Senator Mark extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the people of Enugu North Senatorial District, praying for strength and comfort during their period of mourning.
“May you find strength in knowing that Senator Ezea lived a life of honour, purpose, and service. His legacy will endure in the lives he touched, the battles he fought, and the ideals he upheld.”
He prayed for the repose of the late senator’s soul, asking God to grant him eternal rest and give the nation the fortitude to bear the loss.
