The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, has cautioned party members to desist from actions and statements capable of creating disunity within the party.

The warning follows the heated exchanges and accusations surrounding the confirmation of Abdullahi Garba Ramat as Executive Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

In a statement personally signed by him, Alhaji Abbas expressed concern that the ongoing controversy was threatening to divide the party’s ranks and various support groups across the state.

He noted with dismay that some of the comments circulating among supporters of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and loyalists of the APC’s 2023 gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidates, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, were unhelpful and detrimental to party unity.

“The issue at hand falls squarely within the constitutional responsibilities of the Presidency and the Nigerian Senate,” the party chairman stated. “While it is the prerogative of the Presidency to make nominations, it is the constitutional duty of the Senate to screen and confirm such nominees.”

He reminded members that despite occasional political differences, the APC in Kano has always remained one united and cohesive family.

Alhaji Abbas therefore urged all members to exercise restraint and avoid comments or actions that could deepen divisions within the party.

He called on all sides to respect due process and allow the relevant institutions to carry out their constitutional roles without interference.

Expressing confidence in both the Presidency and the National Assembly, Abbas assured that the matter would be handled appropriately and in the overall interest of the nation and the APC.
