A constitutional lawyer, Hamza N. Dantani Esq, has warned the Kano State Commissioner of Police to stop undermining Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and respect the Constitution.
The warning follows the Commissioner’s absence at the 65th Independence Anniversary parade in Kano on October 1, 2025, which the governor described as “unethical, unprofessional, partisan, and a disservice to the people of Kano State.”
Dantani reminded the Commissioner that the governor is the Chief Executive of the state and that the police are obligated to comply with his lawful directives.
He cited Sections 176(2), 14(2)(b), and 215(1)(b) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which make security and welfare the primary purpose of government and obligate the Commissioner to comply with the governor’s instructions.
The lawyer accused the Commissioner of partisanship and insubordination, warning that politicizing the police force poses dangers to public trust and stability.
Dantani advised the Commissioner to respect constitutional authority, comply with lawful directions, avoid politicization, work with the governor, and seek dialogue instead of conflict.
He warned that undermining the governor’s authority destabilizes governance and endangers the people, calling on the Commissioner to retrace his steps and align his actions with the law.
