Kano Approves Appointment of 8,588 Education Personnel to Boost Basic Education

In a major move to strengthen the education sector, the Kano State Government has approved the appointment of 8,588 education personnel to address the shortage of teachers and improve the quality of basic education across the state.

The appointments comprise 4,900 newly recruited permanent and pensionable teachers alongside 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V facilitators.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presented appointment letters to the successful beneficiaries during a ceremony held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

The recruitment is part of the administration’s broader education reform programme aimed at improving teaching and learning, reducing the teacher-pupil ratio, and expanding access to quality basic education in public schools across the state.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making education a top priority, describing it as the foundation for sustainable development and long-term socio-economic growth.

He urged the newly appointed teachers and facilitators to carry out their duties with dedication, professionalism, and integrity, noting that their roles would be crucial in shaping the future of the state’s children and enhancing educational standards.

The governor said the recruitment complements other ongoing reforms in the education sector, including investments in school infrastructure, teachers’ welfare, instructional materials, and other initiatives designed to improve learning outcomes and reposition public education in Kano.

Education stakeholders described the exercise as one of the largest teacher recruitment drives undertaken by the Kano State Government in recent years, expressing confidence that the additional workforce would improve classroom instruction, boost academic performance, and strengthen the state’s basic education system.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the event, the Provost of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim, commended Governor Yusuf for what he described as visionary leadership and a sustained commitment to revitalising the education sector.

According to him, the large-scale recruitment reflects the administration’s determination to build a stronger and more effective public education system.

He also urged the newly recruited teachers and BESDA facilitators to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving with commitment, diligence, and a strong sense of responsibility.

The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, education administrators, traditional leaders, development partners, and heads of state-owned tertiary institutions, underscoring broad support for the government’s ongoing education reform agenda.
