The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged officers and men of the Kano State Police Command to sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements, stressing the need for proactive policing, resilience, and dedication in the fight against crime.

The IGP’s message was delivered on Wednesday by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DIG Sulaiman M. Abdul, during a lecture for personnel of the command themed, “Asymmetric Threat Preemption, Urban Gang Management, and Securing Commercial Hubs.”

Commending the command for its recent achievements, Disu praised officers for taking the fight directly to criminals through arrests and successful operations against bandits and their leaders.

“The people are noticing our courage. It is far better to strike first and stay on the offensive than to remain only reactive. Keep pushing hard, stay sharp, and sustain this momentum,” the IGP said in a message conveyed by DIG Abdul.

The DIG said the IGP’s administration is anchored on six key pillars aimed at strengthening internal security. These include intelligence-led and technology-driven policing, accountability and human rights compliance, community policing and public trust, inter-agency collaboration, operational standardisation and specialization, as well as personnel welfare and capacity building.

According to Abdul, modern policing must be driven by data analytics, digital forensics, and intelligence gathering.

He urged the Kano command to fully utilise the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) to track criminal activities, identify crime hotspots, and dismantle criminal networks.

He also directed strict enforcement of regulations against unregistered and concealed vehicle number plates, while calling for regular town hall engagements with community stakeholders to strengthen intelligence gathering and public cooperation.

Abdul noted that Kano’s strategic position as a major commercial hub makes its security vital to Nigeria and the wider West African region. He urged officers to intensify efforts against violent youth gangs, cyber-enabled financial crimes, and other emerging security threats.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed that the command arrested and prosecuted 1,357 suspects for offences including armed robbery, kidnapping, thuggery, drug-related crimes, and vehicle theft between January and June 2026.

Bakori identified bandit infiltration, farmers-herders clashes, and urban crime as key security concerns, adding that the command has intensified border patrols, clearance operations, and community engagements to maintain peace and security across the state.
