Sokoto Executive Council Approves Multi-Billion Naira Projects for Roads, Transport, Airport, NYSC Camp

The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved a series of major infrastructure and development projects worth several billions of naira, including ₦2.2 billion for the repair of potholes on 36 roads across the state.

The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Barrister Nasiru Aliyu Dantsoho, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the council meeting held at the Government House in Sokoto.

According to him, the road rehabilitation project is aimed at improving road safety, easing transportation and preventing further deterioration of critical roads where potholes have recently emerged.

He noted that the intervention would also help extend the lifespan of the affected roads.

The council also approved ₦884.68 million for additional works at the ongoing protocol terminal project at Sultan Abubakar III International Airport. Dantsoho explained that the upgrade is intended to enhance facilities and provide improved comfort for dignitaries and other airport users.

Speaking on transport-related approvals, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Bala Kokani, said the council approved the procurement of three bulletproof Toyota Land Cruisers, two Toyota Prados and one Toyota Coaster bus for the Office of the Governor and other official engagements at a cost exceeding ₦1.4 billion.
He further revealed that ₦438 million was approved for the purchase of six buses for the Sokoto State Transport Authority (SSTA), while ₦340 million was approved for two pay loaders for the Ministry of Environment.


Also, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon.

Mustapha Kofar Marke, announced the approval of ₦1.079 billion for the complete renovation of the state NYSC orientation camp to improve accommodation and welfare for corps members.

Other approvals include ₦733.27 million for the renovation of the International Conference Centre in Kasarawa and funding for key infrastructure and budget implementation programmes.
