The Kano State Police Command has restored calm in Jajira Village of Ungogo Local Government Area following a protest that threatened public peace and order in the community.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the unrest occurred on May 8, 2026, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to immediately deploy a team of police operatives led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani, to the affected area.
The police team reportedly engaged the protesting groups, de-escalated tensions, and initiated dialogue aimed at resolving the issues peacefully.
As part of efforts to sustain peace, the Command convened a stakeholders’ meeting on May 9 at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on proactive conflict resolution and community engagement.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Vice Chairman of Ungogo LGA, Hon.
Auwal Idris Isah; the District Head of Ungogo, Alhaji Nura Shehu Ahmad; the Village Head of Jajira, Mallam Ibrahim Muhammad; representatives of the Federal Ministry of Transport; officials of the construction company handling the project linked to the dispute; and other community leaders.
During the meeting, stakeholders were given the opportunity to present their grievances and engage in constructive discussions aimed at finding lasting solutions to the crisis.
The parties agreed on the need for continuous communication and cooperation among all stakeholders to prevent future misunderstandings and ensure peaceful coexistence in the area.
Speaking during the meeting, CP Bakori urged residents to remain law-abiding, avoid actions capable of disrupting public order, and allow lawful activities to continue without interference.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property while maintaining neutrality in resolving community disputes.
The police commissioner also appealed to residents of Jajira Village and Ungogo Local Government Area to support security agencies and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
The Command assured residents that security operatives would continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure lasting peace and stability in the community.
