The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of the state following his successful screening during plenary.
The confirmation took place during a session presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of the ad hoc committee assigned to assess the nominee.
Presenting the report, the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the committee, Muhammad Bello, stated that Garo’s nomination came in the wake of the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Bello explained that the screening process was conducted in line with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the State House of Assembly to confirm a deputy governor nominee when a vacancy arises.
During the exercise, Garo responded to a range of questions bordering on his educational background, professional experience, understanding of governance, and his vision for Kano State. His credentials were also thoroughly verified by the committee.
According to the committee, the nominee demonstrated a firm grasp of the responsibilities of the office and articulated strategies to support the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in delivering good governance and development across the state.
Following the presentation, lawmakers unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations, paving the way for Garo’s confirmation as Deputy Governor.
