Kano Governor Calls for More Investment in Education, Livelihoods for Fulbe Communities

KANO — Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called for increased investment in education, economic opportunities and peaceful coexistence to improve the livelihoods of Fulbe communities in Nigeria and beyond.

The governor made the call on Saturday at the Tabital Pulaaku International Assembly held at the Bristol Palace Hotel in Kano.

Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, spoke on the theme, “Towards Growing the Economy, Livelihoods and Education for Fulbe Communities.”

According to a statement issued by Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu, Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Yusuf said the gathering was timely, particularly in view of the challenges confronting communities whose livelihoods depend largely on livestock production, agriculture and trade.

He called for improved access to finance, livestock services, water, grazing facilities, markets and skills development, with particular attention to creating more opportunities for women and young people.

“There is therefore a need to enhance these livelihoods by providing access to finance, improving livestock development, creating opportunities for women and youth, and supporting skills development,” the governor said.

Yusuf also emphasised the importance of quality education for children, especially those living in rural and herder communities.

He advocated an education system that combines conventional, religious, vocational and digital learning to equip young people with the knowledge and skills required to participate effectively in the modern economy.

The governor further called for greater dialogue and understanding among farmers, herders and other communities as a means of promoting peaceful coexistence.

He assured the gathering of the state government’s willingness to collaborate with Tabital Pulaaku International, traditional institutions and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions to challenges affecting Fulbe communities.

Earlier, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, commended the Kano State Government for supporting the gathering and providing accommodation for participants.

The Emir also called for greater clarity in the roles of the organisation’s international and national structures.

He explained that while the international body should provide strategic direction and coordination, national chapters should take responsibility for issues concerning their respective countries.
