The Federal Government on Monday launched the nationwide Renewed Hope Climate Change Awareness Tour in Kano, marking a significant step toward accelerating climate action and promoting clean energy solutions across Nigeria.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Presidency under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, kicked off with a visit to a clean cookstove manufacturing facility operated by BURN in the state. The event drew top officials from the Presidency, federal ministries, development partners, and the Kano State Government, underscoring strengthened collaboration in addressing climate challenges.

Speaking during the tour, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology and Operations, Olamide Fagbuji, said the programme aims to highlight practical and scalable solutions that support Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy. He noted that the Kano facility exemplifies how climate technology, local manufacturing, and carbon financing can jointly tackle energy poverty while fostering green economic growth.

Representing Governor Abba Yusuf, the Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dahiru Hashim, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to sustainable industrialisation and environmental protection. He described Kano as a growing hub for climate governance and innovation.

The flag-off follows Nigeria’s recent approval to export about 5.2 million carbon credits under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, a move expected to attract increased climate financing.

Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, Salisu Dahiru, said the development positions to Nigeria prominently in global carbon markets while ensuring tangible development outcomes.

BURN CEO Peter Scott revealed that over one million cookstoves have been distributed nationwide since 2023, with the Kano facility producing 35,000 units monthly and plans underway to scale up to 100,000 units.
