The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 1,889 personnel across Kano State to ensure smooth traffic flow and safer roads during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
Kano Sector Commander, Idris Mohammed-Lawal, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Monday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran.
He said special patrol operations will run from Tuesday through Sunday as part of efforts to reduce road crashes, fatalities and injuries while maintaining free movement of traffic across the state.
According to the sector commander, the deployment consists of 1,348 regular marshals and 541 special marshals who will sustain 24-hour patrols across Kano’s 44 Local Government Areas.
Mohammed-Lawal noted that the operation will be reinforced with five ambulances, one heavy-duty tow truck and 25 patrol vehicles to ensure rapid rescue services and swift clearance of road obstructions.
He added that enforcement teams will focus on major traffic violations such as speeding, dangerous overtaking, lane indiscipline, overloading, phone use while driving, seat-belt offences and operation of mechanically deficient vehicles.
The FRSC will also work closely with other security and emergency agencies to strengthen traffic control and ensure prompt incident response. These include the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency.
Mohammed-Lawal urged motorists and members of the public to report crashes and emergencies via the FRSC toll-free line 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.
He also wished Muslims a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration and advised drivers to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
