Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday joined fellow governors from the North-West geopolitical zone in Hadejia, Jigawa State, for the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the programme is aimed at addressing food insecurity and improving nutrition among vulnerable households across the country.
The event brought together governors, federal ministers, traditional rulers and other senior government officials to support the initiative, which targets pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under the age of six.
Governor Yusuf described the programme as a timely intervention that complements the efforts of state governments in tackling malnutrition and food insecurity.
He reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that promote food security, strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the welfare of residents, particularly vulnerable groups.
The National Community Food Bank Programme, launched under the Renewed Hope Initiative, is designed to distribute nutritious food through Primary Healthcare Centres nationwide as part of efforts to reduce hunger and child malnutrition.
Governors from Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa states attended the event to receive the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during her official visit to Hadejia.
The launch marks another step in the Federal Government’s drive to enhance food security and improve the nutritional wellbeing of vulnerable Nigerians through community-based interventions.
