Muhammad-Bande to Chair UDUS International Conference on Media, Artificial Intelligence

Former President of the United Nations General Assembly, Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, is set to chair the maiden International Conference on Mass Communication organised by the Department of Mass Communication, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).

The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr. Danladi Bako, OON.

According to the statement, the four-day conference will commence on June 7 with a pre-conference lecture to be delivered by Prof. Fatma El-Sayed of Cairo University, Egypt, at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Prof. Muhammad-Bande, a former Vice-Chancellor of UDUS, expressed delight at chairing the conference, which will focus on the evolving role of the media and its intersection with Artificial Intelligence in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, June 8, at the university auditorium. The Vice-Chancellor, who is the Chief Host of the event, assured participants that the university is fully prepared to welcome scholars, researchers and media professionals from across the world.

The Organising Committee also disclosed that the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Prof. Attahiru Jega, alongside other council members, will attend the opening ceremony.

One of the major highlights of the conference will be the keynote lecture by Prof. Kehbuma Langmia of Howard University, Washington, D.C., a distinguished academic and double Fulbright Scholar.

The conference is themed, “Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.” It is expected to attract lead paper presenters, panellists and participants from Nigerian universities and other relevant stakeholder groups.

As part of the event, the Department of Mass Communication will unveil the maiden edition of its academic publication, Alkalami Journal of Communication and Media Studies.

Organisers say the conference will provide a robust platform for scholarly engagement, knowledge exchange and discussions on the future of media practice and national development in the age of Artificial Intelligence.
