President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, resulting in the exit of two key ministers and the appointment of new replacements.
The development was disclosed in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who confirmed that Mr. Wale Edun and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa will step down from their positions.
Until the reshuffle, Wale Edun served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. He has now been directed to hand over to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who assumes the role as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
In a related move, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been appointed as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. The outgoing minister, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has also been instructed to hand over responsibilities to the Minister of State in the ministry.
According to the directive, all handover processes must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume stated that the changes are intended to enhance cohesion and synergy within the cabinet, as well as improve service delivery—particularly in advancing the administration’s economic agenda.
He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the changes.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their contributions to national service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
He also assured remaining cabinet members that efforts to reinvigorate governance will continue as part of his administration’s broader agenda.
