Residents have called on authorities to take urgent and decisive action to safeguard lives following a road accident linked to overloading and reckless driving in Kano.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. in Dorayi, near the SWAT Base police office, when a goods-laden mini truck, locally known as Kurƙura, overturned.

Eyewitnesses blamed the accident on excessive loading and dangerous driving, noting that the vehicle was carrying far more than its capacity.

“The truck was heavily loaded with plastic food flask containers, far exceeding its limit,” a witness said.

According to accounts from the scene, the driver was reportedly speeding and failed to observe basic traffic regulations. The situation worsened when he attempted to overtake other vehicles, leading to the loss of control that caused the truck to overturn.

“He was driving at high speed without caution and tried to overtake recklessly. That was when the truck lost balance and fell,” another eyewitness explained.

In the process, the truck reportedly ran over the driver’s assistant, leaving him injured.

Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

Residents of the Dorayi community expressed deep concern over the recurring cases of accidents along the route and urged relevant authorities to enforce stricter traffic regulations.

“Authorities must act now. Overloading and reckless driving are becoming too common and dangerous,” a resident lamented.

They specifically called for increased monitoring and enforcement along Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmud Adam Road (Panshekara Road) and other major roads, stressing the need to address one-way traffic violations between Maimuna House Junction and Unguwar Bello Junction.

“We need stricter enforcement, especially on one-way violations in this area. Accidents happen here too often,” another resident added.

The community emphasized that without immediate intervention, such preventable accidents could lead to more serious consequences in the future.
