Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Saturday received the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flag for the 2027 general elections as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other party leaders launched the party’s presidential re-election campaign in Kaduna State.

The APC National Chairman presented the party’s flag to Yusuf at the event, formally recognising him as the party’s governorship candidate in Kano State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ceremony brought together President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governors, elected officials, party stakeholders and supporters from across the country.

Yusuf’s participation in the rally and receipt of the governorship flag underscored Kano’s place in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming general elections, particularly given the state’s large voting population and political significance in Northern Nigeria.

Speaking at the event, President Tinubu commended governors across the country for what he described as developmental strides in their respective states, acknowledging their contributions to governance and the implementation of development initiatives.

Ahead of the campaign launch, Governor Yusuf had charged members of the Kano State Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council to intensify grassroots mobilisation and work towards securing the highest number of votes for President Tinubu in Kano during the 2027 presidential election.

The governor urged campaign officials to strengthen engagement with communities, political stakeholders and voters across the state to expand the party’s reach and improve coordination ahead of the polls.

He also advised members of the campaign council to focus on communicating the achievements, policies and programmes of APC-led administrations rather than engaging in personal attacks against political opponents.

Yusuf stressed the importance of discipline, unity and constructive political engagement in the party’s campaign activities.

The governor’s appearance at the Kaduna rally follows his defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC, a move that has altered the political landscape in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The campaign flag-off is expected to serve as a platform for APC leaders to strengthen party structures, coordinate mobilisation efforts and consolidate support ahead of the presidential and governorship elections.

With Yusuf receiving the party’s governorship flag and Kano delegates participating in the presidential campaign launch, the state has featured prominently in the APC’s early preparations for the 2027 electoral contest.
