The Kano State Police Command has announced a significant decline in criminal activities across Kano State in the first quarter of 2026, following sweeping reforms and strengthened security operations.
Addressing journalists, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori said the Command’s restructuring has improved operational efficiency and service delivery.
“I am pleased to report that our efforts are yielding positive results.
We remain committed to building on this momentum to ensure Kano State remains safe and secure for all,” he said.
Bakori noted that the Command’s 2026 roadmap is delivering results through enhanced community policing, intelligence led strategies, capacity building, inter-agency collaboration, public awareness campaigns, and a strengthened cybercrime unit.
He highlighted the impact of Operation Kukan Kura, which he said has helped contain thuggery and violent crimes across the state.
“Our strategies are proactive and technology-driven. We are strengthening intelligence architecture and investing in modern investigative tools to meet the demands of our dynamic society,” he added.
The police chief, acting on directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, urged officers to uphold professionalism and discipline while embracing evidence-based policing.
Among key achievements, Bakori listed the containment of thuggery, disruption of bandit activities, resolution of farmers–herders clashes through dialogue, arrests and prosecutions of criminal suspects, and recovery of stolen assets.
He also revealed that over 2,000 suspected drug dealers were identified through open-source intelligence.
“We are profiling the names received and will take decisive action after verification,” he stated.
Bakori expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and residents for their support.
“We assure citizens of our unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property,” he said.
