Minor Train Incident Near Asham Delays Service; NRC Confirms No Fatalities

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a train incident that occurred at about 10:30 a.m. near Asham involving a rear locomotive and an adjacent passenger coach.

According to the Corporation’s management, the incident was caused by a coupling fault between the affected coaches. Some passengers sustained injuries and were immediately attended to by emergency responders before being transported to a nearby medical facility for proper treatment. The NRC confirmed that no fatalities were recorded.

Emergency response procedures were swiftly activated, with technical teams deployed to the scene to secure the area and restore operations. The Safety Investigation Bureau (SIB) is also on ground conducting a detailed investigation in line with national safety protocols.

Rail services experienced temporary disruption as officials worked to detach the affected rear locomotive and coach, identified as SP 0006.

The train later arrived at Idu Railway Station at approximately 10:39 a.m., about 38 minutes behind schedule.

The NRC reassured the public that passenger safety remains its highest priority and emphasized that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents and ensure the continued safe operation of rail services nationwide.
