The Kano State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against vehicle theft with the arrest of a six-member car theft syndicate and the recovery of three stolen vehicles.
The operation, carried out by the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS), followed ongoing intelligence-led and technology-driven policing strategies championed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the prime suspect, 35-year-old Aliyu Mamman, was arrested on February 13, 2026, at Hotoro Ring Road in Kano.
Mamman, a resident of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, is described as a serial car theft suspect.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to stealing several vehicles across Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina states. He also reportedly provided information that led to the arrest of five other members of the syndicate: Abdulhamid Usman, Saliha Abdulhamid, Auwal Shuaibu, Sani Bala, and Ahmad Mannir.
Following their arrest, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in the crimes, resulting in the recovery of three stolen vehicles — a Golf Wagon, a Golf Opel, and a Hijet (popularly known as Kurkura).
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the Special Intervention Squad for their professionalism and dedication, describing the operation as a significant success in the Command’s ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order, the Police Command assured the public of continued efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents in line with the Inspector-General’s vision of community-oriented policing.
The statement was issued on February 22, 2026.
