The Kano State Government has announced plans to construct model cities comprising 1,800 housing units across the 36 rural local government areas of the state.
This was revealed in a statement signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment in the Ministry of Housing Development, Malam Adamu Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the Commissioner for Housing Development, Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, made the disclosure while receiving a delegation from the Jigawa State Government in his office. He noted that preparations for the commencement of the project were already in place.
Arc. Adamu explained that each local government area would receive 50 well-designed housing units, all equipped with essential infrastructure. He added that the initiative aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s campaign promise to provide modern and affordable housing across the state.
The facilities to be included in the model cities are schools, police stations, clinics, water supply systems, and electricity, all aimed at meeting international standards.
He further stated that while the Ministry of Housing Development would handle the construction of the houses, the Ministry of Rural and Community Development would be responsible for providing access roads and drainage networks within the estates.
The Commissioner also disclosed that over 100 developer firms had shown interest in partnering with the state government on the project. Out of these, about 60 local and international firms have been shortlisted for consideration.
Earlier, the leader of the visiting delegation, Surveyor Abdullahi Hassan who is also the Permanent Secretary of the Jigawa State Ministry of Land, Housing, Urban Development and Regional Planning—said they were in Kano on a study tour to learn from the state’s developmental strategies.
He commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration for the remarkable infrastructure improvements happening across the state and urged Kano to sustain its cordial relationship with Jigawa.
