The Kano State Government has demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, over alleged inflammatory remarks on the security situation in the state.
The Commissioner for information and internal affairs Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya disclosed this while briefing journalist on outcome of the state executive council meeting .
He said Ganduje had claimed that Kano was becoming increasingly vulnerable to banditry and disclosed plans to recruit 12,000 personnel under a proposed religious police outfit, Khairul Nas, to tackle recent attacks.
” He also urged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to adopt similar security strategies he applied while in office.”
Abdullahi Ibrahim Waiya, said Ganduje’s comments were capable of heightening tension and undermining existing security efforts.
He stressed that both the state and federal governments were working tirelessly to protect lives and property.
Waiya expressed disappointment that despite ongoing measures to contain recent threats, the former governor’s remarks had “worsened the situation.”
Attempts to obtain a reaction from Ganduje’s former Chief of Staff, Comrade Mohammed Garba, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages.
