In a major political development ahead of the 2027 elections, no fewer than 650 members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gobirawa Ward of Dala Local Government Area, as well as parts of Fagge and Ungoggo LGAs in Kano State.
The defectors, who arrived in groups under various local leaders, were formally received on Friday by Alhaji Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, Managing Director of the Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority.
Bichi, while welcoming the new members, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, describing it as a model of fairness, inclusiveness, and delivery of democratic dividends. He highlighted key successes of the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the student loan initiative, agricultural reforms, and youth and women empowerment programmes.
According to him, the Authority is partnering with the Bank of Agriculture to provide soft loans to farmers, aimed at boosting food production and ensuring food security.
He assured the defectors of full integration into the APC, emphasizing that the party upholds equality and unity among all its members.
Speaking on behalf of the new entrants, Alhaji Ahmad Danfulani Gobirawa said their defection was driven by the visible achievements of President Tinubu within less than two years in office.
He expressed confidence that their decision to join the APC would strengthen the party’s grassroots support base in Kano and beyond.
The defection event, which attracted party stalwarts, community leaders, and youth organizations, was hailed as a major political gain for the APC in Kano, reinforcing the party’s growing influence across the state.
